Food Safety and Quality

Vermont Herb & Salad Company Inc. is a small family-run farm. Although we are small, food safety has always been an integral part of our farm.  We are in the process of implementing a new food safety program. We currently follow NOP and USDA GAP guidelines. Our four critical areas that requires safety control measures are water safety, compost, worker hygiene and greenhouse/ packing sanitation.

 In the Greenhouses

  • We follow GAP (USDA Good agricultural practices)
  • Greens are grown on tables in secure greenhouses which eliminate contact from birds, pest and rodents
  •  All seed is certified organic and tested by seed suppliers for pathogens such as e. coli.
  •  Irrigation water is sourced from private well which is tested regularly and professional maintained

  •  All harvesting is completed with sanitized equipment and disposable liner
